Haryana News: Election Commission of India Announces Rules About Cellphone Usage

Haryana News: On the day of poll of Presidential Election 2012, the candidates, their representatives and members of the Electoral College will not be allowed to carry cellular phones, cordless phones, wireless sets with them inside the polling stations, as per instructions issued by the Election Commission of India.
While stating this here today, Mr Sumit Kumar, Assistant Returning Officer and Secretary, Haryana Vidhan Sabha said that arrangements would be made near polling premises to deposit the cellular phones, if any, brought by any voter before entering the place of polling which can be collected after casting vote. A sign board to this effect would be kept outside the place of polling.
He said that no officials including observer would be allowed to use cellphone inside the place of poll. However, the returning officers and assistant returning officers would arrange for a control room with a dedicated phone line so that whenever the Commission’s officials need to contact returning officer or assistant returning officer and observer, they could pass information through that control room number.
