Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Maharashtra today formally inaugurated the 33rd Surajkund International Crafts Mela-2019 at Surajkund, Faridabad in the august presence of Shri Manohar Lal, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Haryana, Shri Ram Bilas Sharma, Hon’ble Tourism Minister, Haryana, Shri Jaykumar Rawal, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism & Employment Guarantee Scheme, Government of Maharahtra, , H.E. Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Amabassador of Thailand in India, Shri Krishanpal Gurjar, Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, Shri Vipul Goel, Industries Minister, Haryana, Shri Mool Chand Sharma, M.L.A., Ballabhgarh, Shri Tek Chand Sharma M.L.A.,Prithala and Shri Jagdish Chopra, Chairman, Haryana Tourism Corporation and other international dignitaries.
A traditional welcome was extended at Dhanteshwari gate to Shri Devendra Fadnavis , Hon’ble Chief Minister, Maharashtra and Shri Manohar Lal, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Haryana along with other dignitaries. Shri Manohar Lal took a round of the Theme State- Maharshta’s craftshuts and interacted with the craftspersons and weavers. He also visited the international area and Apna Ghar, Haryana. Following which, Chief Minister, Maharashtra headed towards the Chaupal and did the honours of lighting the lamp.
Shri Vijai Vardhan, additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Haryana Cum Vice Chairman, Surajkund Mela Authority, extended a warm welcome to all the esteemed dignitaries and praised the goverennce of Shri Manohar Lal which has brought a change in the state of Haryana. He further stated that the Surajkund International Crafts Mela has grown leaps and bounds since its inception and this year the participation has increased even more especially by foreign nations and it is an honour to host such skilled craftsperons here. Like every year the mela will spread the colours of tradition and heritage of India and will be a grand experience for everyone.
Shri Yogendra Tripathi, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India extended a hearty welcome to Chief Minister, Haryana and expressed gratitude towards all the present dignitaries for being a part of the Mela. Shri Yogendra Tripathi stated that Surajkund International Crafts Mela has attained such great heights and today it is recognized across the world. It is a showcase of talent and exhibition of heritage of India and wished for its success year after year.
Smt. Vinita Singal, Principal Secretary, Tourism, Maharashtra stated that Maharshtra has brought treasure for visitors and patrons with 5 major gates, replica of Raigad fort, 200 artisans. She further stated that Mahrashtra will showcase its history of textile starting from 17th century in the form of a unique fashion show.
Hon’ble Tourism Minister, Haryana, Shri Ram Bilas Sharma expressed happiness that this Mela is a symbol of pride and has brought great repute for the state of Haryana. He further added that this Mela a great platform to market handicrafts and offers craftspersons a global market. He praised all the officials and Haryana tourism team behind the organization of the Mela. He stated that with growing popularity, the mela has also increased in its stature and size with more craftsmen, countries and stalls this year.
H.E. Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Amabassador of Thailand in India stated that Surajkund International Crafts Mela has given impetus to tourism sector in totality. He stated that Thailand’s association with the Mela will strike a new chord between the people of both the nations and help promote each other’s culture and tourism.
Shri Manohar Lal, Chief Minister, Haryana said that the Surajkund International Crafts Mela has attained the status of being an international calendar event. He also complimented the efforts of the Authorities and management for successfully organising the mela to boost state’s tourism
Shri Jaykumar Rawal Hon’ble Minister of Tourism & Employment Guarantee Scheme, Government of Maharahtra stated that the participation on such a scale is matter of pride and Maharashtra being the theme state will definitely add a new flavour and colour to the vibrant ambiance of the mela with its traditions, dances and crafts.
Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Maharashtra stated that participation from over 30 countries in the 33rd edition of Surajkund International Crafts Mela signifies the growing importance of this Mela that offers an ideal platform for the hardworking clan of craftspersons. Tourism is uniting India into one entity. The participation of Maharashtra as theme state is a matter of pride for the state and with its vibrant culture and traditions this mela will enthrall every visitor and patron.
Shri Manohar Lal, Chief Minister, Haryana unveiled the ‘Special Postal Cover’ on ‘Surajkund International Crafts Mela and announced the Surajkund International Crafts Mela officially open. Chief Minister stated that the Surajkund International Crafts Mela infuses new energy among everyone and it is in collaboration with different Ministries of Textile, Tourism, Culture & External Affairs that the Mela has achieved international fame. He said that as per Indian tradition ‘the world is one family’ Surajkund Mela becomes a platform for interaction on a global level, which will bring peace and prosperity amongst nations.
He also announced that Mahendragarh and Krishna Circuit will be linked to boost tourism in the state. He also stated that a memorial will be made in honour of the Maratha soldiers who fought the Third battle of Panipat in Panipat.
The inauguration ceremony of the Mela also saw enthralling performances being presented by Haryanavi dancers, Thai artists and artistes from Maharashtra. The Mela will remain open to public from 10.30 am-8.30 pm daily from 1st to 17th February, 2019.
